So in order for you to continuously benefit from these beautiful fountains, as owners, you also have to do your part and help them flow nicely and last for years. Your wall fountain may be made with different materials and set up so these guidelines will help you in caring for your wall fountain.

Keep your wall fountain’s water fresh from the start:

When acquiring a wall fountain, it is a must that you keep the water fresh right from the very first time you had it. It is strongly recommended that you use distilled water for your wall fountain because they are free from calcium deposits and lime that will possibly build up on your wall fountain. Where there is water, Algae will also be a problem as time goes by. These are several fountain care products that will help you keep your fountain’s water fresh and at the same time helps prevent Algae build up like Fountain Fresh, Fountain Block and No More Algae.  Cleaning your wall fountain should be every four to six months. You may have to really take time to completely clean your water feature like getting into the critical parts of the fountain and going into every detail.

Here are the steps on cleaning your wall fountain:

1. Empty the water from the wall fountain. Get the water out of the fountain so you can clean all the parts properly. You may pump the water out into a bucket using another pump or a vacuum to suck the water out.

2. Clean the fountain Pump. The pump is the life of every fountain and this is what makes the fountain flow so it is very important to keep it clean.  Make sure that the fountain is free from debris or algae that may clog the pump and causes malfunction. Unplug the pump, disconnect the tube to the fountain and remove the pump to start cleaning it. For convenient and easy cleaning it is recommended to clean the pump in a sink. Run fresh water through the pump and use a toothbrush to remove any build up in the tiny and hard to reach parts of the fountain pump.

3. Clean the fountain’s distribution unit. Typically the distribution unit will have holes that spits out water. These holes should be kept clean to prevent it from clogging and preventing the water from flowing properly. To clean the unit properly you should remove the distribution unit and clean it in the sink. A long and slender brush that can slick through the unit will be helpful in removing debris and any build ups. You can also use a toothbrush in cleaning the outer parts of the unit especially the holes.

4. Clean the tubing. This is a part of the fountain pump that carries the water to the wall fountain’s distribution unit and can also get debris and build ups that can cause water flow issues. You can clean the tubing as well with a brush.

5. Clean the surface of your fountain. The surface of your wall water fountain is very easy to clean.  You can use a non-abrasive pad or sponge in cleaning any build ups or algae from your slate wall fountain. For Glass or Mirrored surfaces, cleaning the mirror can be done with Windex, CLR or any other glass cleaner.  A highly recommended glass cleaner is Jazz Window Prep.  This will not only clean the glass, it will make the water flow flawless over the face of your fountain.

6. Wipe the base of the Fountain Clean. Once the water is out of the fountain you can simply wipe the base clean with a sponge and clean water without taking the base of the fountain down. Remove any slime that has started to build up around the base of the fountain.

After cleaning all of the important parts of the fountain, put your fountain’s pump back in place and add fresh water. If this is the cleaning routine done every four to six months, then you will surely save a lot of work and this should keep your fountain pump and water fountain in great condition for years to come.
